These are precision timing circuits that can generate accurate oscillations or time delays. A single external resistor and capacitor network controls the timed interval in the time-delay or monostable mode of operation. Two external resistors and one external capacitor can be used to independently control the frequency and duty cycle in the astable mode of operation. Typically, the threshold and trigger ranges are one-third and two-thirds of VCC, respectively. The voltage terminal allows you to change these levels. The flip-flop is set and the output becomes high when the trigger input drops below the trigger level. The flip-flop is reset and the output is low if both the trigger input and the threshold input are above the trigger level.
