The SP491 is a full-duplex RS-485 transceiver IC available in a compact Surface-Mount Device (SMD) package, designed to facilitate high-speed, reliable communication over long distances in industrial and commercial applications. It supports the RS-485 communication standard, enabling robust differential signaling for high noise immunity and data integrity, even in electrically noisy environments. This IC features separate driver and receiver channels for full-duplex operation, allowing simultaneous bidirectional data transmission on two twisted-pair cables. The SP491 operates with a supply voltage range of 4.75V to 5.25V, ensuring compatibility with standard logic systems. It provides high-speed data rates up to 5Mbps, making it suitable for demanding communication applications. The device includes thermal shutdown protection, short-circuit protection, and ESD protection up to ±15kV (human body model) to enhance reliability in harsh environments. It also features a fail-safe design that ensures the receiver outputs a known state in the absence of input signals.
