A semiconductor called the 2N5294 is used to switch or enhance electrical power and electronic signals. In order to link to an external circuit, it is often made of semiconductor material with at least three terminals. The current flowing through a different pair of transistor terminals is controlled by a voltage or current applied to one pair of terminals. Because the regulated (output) power of a transistor can be higher than the controlling (input) power, a transistor can magnify a signal.
