74HC138 3-to-8 line Decoder/Demultiplexer IC DIP-16 Package
The 74HC138 is a 3-to-8 line decoder/demultiplexer IC housed in a DIP-16 package. This versatile device is used to convert binary input signals into a one-of-eight output signal, making it an essential component for various digital applications, including memory address decoding and data routing. The 74HC138 takes three binary inputs (A0, A1, A2) and decodes them into one of eight active-low outputs (Y0 to Y7). When a specific combination of the input lines is activated, the corresponding output line will be driven low, while all other outputs remain high. This function allows for the selection of one output line from eight possibilities, providing a clear and efficient way to control multiple circuits from a single input. The device features three enable inputs (G1, G2A, and G2B) that control its operation. The decoder is enabled when G1 is high and both G2A and G2B are low. When disabled, all outputs will remain high, allowing for flexible control in complex digital circuits.
