74HC165 8-Bit Parallel In/Serial Out Shift Register SMD IC
The 74HC165 is an 8-Bit Parallel In/Serial Out Shift Register designed as an SMD (Surface Mount Device) IC. It is primarily used for converting parallel data inputs into serial data outputs. This device features eight parallel inputs (D0 to D7), a clock input (CP), a shift/load input (SH/LD), and a serial output (QH). It is an ideal component for applications requiring the transfer of parallel data into a serial stream, such as in data communication systems or digital signal processing. When the SH/LD pin is held low, the data present on the parallel inputs is latched into the register on the next clock pulse. Once the data is loaded, setting the SH/LD pin high allows the register to shift the data to the serial output (QH) on each subsequent clock pulse. This enables the conversion of parallel input data into a serial data stream efficiently. The device can be cascaded with additional 74HC165 ICs for extending the number of input bits beyond 8. The 74HC165 operates within a supply voltage range of 2V to 6V, ensuring compatibility with both TTL and CMOS logic levels. It features high-speed operation with minimal power consumption, making it suitable for a range of applications, including microcontroller interfacing, data acquisition systems, and control circuits in digital electronics.
