LM3915N IC – LED Dot/Bar Display Driver IC

The monolithic integrated circuit LM3915 senses analog voltage levels and powers ten vacuum fluorescent, LCD, or LED displays to create an analog display with a 3-dB step-by-step logarithmic display. When a pin is touched, the display transforms from a bar graph to a moving . display. The programmable and controlled nature of LED current drives eliminates the need for current flow-limiting resistors. The entire display system can be powered by a single supply that ranges in voltage from 3V to 25V. Along with an accurate ten-step voltage divider, the IC has an adjustable voltage reference. Up to 1 point 5 volts and signals from the positive supply across the ground are accepted by the high-impedance input buffer. It is also not required to provide protection against inputs that are lower than 35V. The input buffer powers ten discrete comparators, which are linked to the precision divider. Usually, the accuracy is greater than 1 dB. Speaker volume, power, light intensity, and vibration are examples of signals with a broad dynamic range that are well-suited for the LM3915's 3 dB/step display. Power meters, RF signal meters, and peak or average level indicators are examples of audio application areas.
