CD4543 BCD to 7 Segment Decoder IC (DIP-16 Package)
The CD4543 is a BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) to 7-segment latch/decoder/driver IC housed in a DIP-16 package, designed to convert a 4-bit BCD input into signals that can drive a 7-segment display. This IC is ideal for applications in digital clocks, electronic meters, and other numerical display systems. The CD4543 takes a BCD input (four input lines representing a decimal digit in binary form) and decodes it to illuminate the corresponding segments (a–g) of a 7-segment display. It supports common anode and cathode displays due to its output control features, offering design flexibility. The IC has a latch-enable (LE) input, which allows the BCD input to be stored and held, enabling stable display even when the input signals change. Key features include a wide operating voltage range from 3V to 15V, making it compatible with various digital systems, and a low power consumption characteristic of CMOS technology. It also provides a blanking input (BI) for controlling display visibility and a lamp-test (LT) input for verifying segment connections.
